Cristina Mejías : counting histories, the host and the ghost
Making connections between a flat image and a three-dimensional object is electric—a bit like putting your hand through a mirror. We have a preconceived idea of the academic world as being a legitimate fount of knowledge. Here, we're not satisfied merely keeping a leaf in a herbarium. A living plant is ravaged by the air and it’s important this takes place.
Mejías’s immersion in archaeology, together with Efthimis Theou, presents excavation as the prelude to a multitude of formulations. The landmark becomes blended with the earth and the fictions that arise provide options for a subsequent antiquated story in a museum showcase.
