Europa bat-batean = De repente, Europa = Suddenly Europe = Soudain l'Europe
Europe's best improvisers will gather in San Sebastian for an international meeting of oral traditions from European cultures. Sardinian, Kurdish, Catalan, Welsh, Austrian and Polish representatives will all act as bertsolaris, bringing together different traditions on stage in an intercultural dialogue. Every afternoon, these crossovers will come from encounters with citizens that will be held in the city's public spaces. In the morning, experts on the topic will explore this area and share the latest research in partnership with the University of the Basque Country summer courses. Transmission from generation to generation, the relationship between oral tradition and the contexts of minority languages, the perspective of gender and applied research in science and technology will inspire the morning conferences' content as well as the presentations that will take place in the afternoon. The international meeting will take place in San Sebastian from 11-16 July and will end with an event at the Kursaal where the world's diverse oral traditions will be combined. As a taste of what is to come, preview events were held in Leon, Barcelona and the Basque Country in autumn 2015 and spring 2016.
