The Savage Eye
The Savage Eye, Joseph Strick, Ben Maddow, Sidney Meyers, USA, 1960, 68'
In a journey through the dark side of 1950s urban life, the camera follows Judith - a recently divorced woman looking for a fresh start - through the streets of Los Angeles. As she wanders, she encounters the city's inhabitants, from trendsetters to religious zealots. The film captures the life of Los Angeles in the late 1950s: the bars, the storefronts, the beauty parlours and, above all, the people. The Savage Eye is an experimental hybrid between fiction and documentary, portraying urban life as both a nightmare and a release.
