At the end of the sixties, Dr Malcolm Sayer, a New York neurologist, decides to use a new drug to treat patients with lethargic encephalitis, a disease that deprives its victims of motor capabilities until they are reduced to a vegetative state. Little by little, a certain improvement in the patients becomes evident, particularly in Leonard Lowe.
