Linocutting is a relief carving technique similar to wood carving. The difference is that it allows us to create images without the need for presses or professional carving equipment.

The inherent flexibility of linoleum means that images can be easily created in a two-hour workshop. During the session, we will discover what linoleum is as a material, and the artistic discipline of linocutting. For the rest of the workshop, anyone interested in discovering and gaining an introduction into linocutting will work on a small image using this technique. Each participant will be able to work with linoleum and create an image simply by taking a sheet of the material, drawing on it, cutting the surface with gouges, staining it with ink, printing the image on paper, and burnishing the underside of the paper with a wooden spoon.

All this is possible using material with anyone’s reach, without the need for presses or prior knowledge of carving.
