The embrace between generals Baldomero Espartero and Rafael Maroto in Bergara ended the First Carlist War in the Basque Country. Many of Don Carlos’ followers did not agree with the Convention of Bergara, but it ended the conflict with the foral transaction. Even if most Basque citizens accepted the solution happily, as a consequence of various interpretations regarding the foral transaction, the convention turned into the key to abolish the system. In this exhibition, some interpretations about that conflict that took place in the Basque territories to get the Spanish throne were gathered.
